OrderStorm E-commerce Platform for WordPress

Thursday, March 24th, 2011

PUBLISHED 9 DEC 2010 | NO COMMENT
The powerful OrderStorm e-commerce platform is now available for WordPress users. Unlike the limited WordPress plug-ins currently available, the OrderStorm e-commerce shopping cart software is a fully featured program suited to web stores with large numbers of SKUs and multiple customer service reps working on order management simultaneously.

The integrated WordPress eCommerce shopping cart has many advantages. Users gain all of the SEO advantages of using content management software including increased visibility for products by making the shopping cart website show up better in the natural search. In addition, with a WordPress front end to the shopping cart, users can easily make changes themselves. This is a big advantage to retailers who change out their home page frequently with sales, specials and new products.

“By building the website in WordPress, users can easily add content and change their websites themselves while maintaining the functionality of the OrderStorm e-commerce software in the back end”, says Dan Sallis, lead application architect at OrderStorm. “This is a major advantage for retailers that want to change and update their websites frequently for season promotions, sales and special features”, says Sallis.

The OrderStorm WordPress e-Commerce shopping cart has built-in automation features to run both a business based on drop shipping for web only retailers as well as options for running a dealer program for manufacturers and wholesalers. It also offers expanded order management functions making it a much more powerful program than the WordPress e-Commerce plugins currently available.

The independent authority on the best web designing companies, bestwebdesignagencies.com, has released the Top 10 WordPress Development Firms for February 2011.

Friday, March 18th, 2011

PLYMOUTH, INDIANA, February 21, 2011 — bestwebdesignagencies.com, the independent authority on the best web designing companies, has named the best WordPress Development Firms for February 2011. Each applicant was put through an extensive evaluation based upon an internally developed set of evaluation criteria. The independent review team that completed the analysis determined that these companies were the best when it came to WordPress Development.
“Our evaluation criteria consists of core values that we find to be important for WordPress Development Services that provide web strategy services for planning and constructing websites,” said Jeev Trika, Managing Partner of bestwebdesignagencies.com (http://www.bestwebdesignagencies.com).

The Top 10 WordPress Development Companies for February 2011 are:

1.) Red Evolution

2.) HexaDesigners

3.) iSquare Technologies

4.) AskGraphics

5.) Go4WordPress

6.) NorthStudio

7.) Studio 7 Designs Inc.

8.) Finding Simple

9.) Equal Design

10.) PixelCrayons

An experienced research team is assigned to evaluate each firm according to the set of internally developed ranking criteria. The first criterion focuses on project analysis, which reviews the process by which a vendor analyzes the focus of the business and the possibilities for designing a website specifically for that business. The team also reviews the vendor’s ability to identify types of software that would be beneficial for the client and different components and protocols of which to take advantage.

The next criterion focuses on customer involvement. bestwebdesignagencies.com evaluates firms based on how they involve the customer and the information that they gather in order to come up with an effective strategy for the development and design of a website.

The third criterion focuses on the effectiveness of the strategy that has been designed. Questions include “Does the strategy handle multiple aspects of the stages of development and design for the website?” and “Does it cover different boundaries and obstacles to launch?”

Our fourth criterion is on the quality of service being provided. The team evaluates a firm for how they handle their service with the customer and the quality of service being provided. This is done through both evaluating service processes and listening to what the customer thought about the service being provided.

The final criterion is on the strategy depth or how far into the project the firm has developed the strategy which involves the question, “Is the vendor able to look through an entire website project and make sure that it can be done?”

The WordPress Users Association Opens to the Public

Friday, March 18th, 2011

wpua.org

Dallas, Texas – Dec 1, 2010 – The WordPress Users Association is leaving private invite only status and opening to the public as of Wednesday, Dec 1st, 2010 at 10:00 am CST. Anyone interested in WordPress or perfecting their blogging skills now has the opportunity to join WPUA.org, without the need for an invitation from a current member. Today it is possible to join this elite and fast growing community and take advantage of the many benefits the WordPress Users Association has to offer its members.
WordPress, developed by Matt Mullenweg and team at Automatic, Inc., released for the first time in May of 2003. WordPress is considered an open source Content Management System (CMS) used most often for blog publishing and powers some of the Internet’s most popular blogs. WordPress has millions and millions of users the world over and the current version (3.0) has been downloaded more than 12.5 million times in just a few months.
WordPress is the most used publishing platform today and thankfully John Pozadzides (“John P”) and Wesley W. Williams realized that despite being so popular there are still many people that simply do not understand how to use WordPress correctly or to its full potential so they created this independent user association – WPUA.org.
According to John P, the President of the Association, “there are other resources out there like the WordPress.org discussion forums which are loaded with technical questions and answers but what we haven’t had is a central place to come together as a community and swap war stories, combine resources, and focus on all of the over-arching issues that such a large group of users will invariably face and that’s why we created the WordPress Users Association.”
The WordPress Users Association goal is to help all users of WordPress, regardless of their technical skill set, blogging experience or geographical location – connect, learn and share the power of WordPress.
On review, prospective members will see that the WUPA does more than just offer articles and tutorials. In fact, members have access to the latest industry news, tools, certifications and more. The point of the WUPA is to teach members exactly how to use WordPress so they can take advantage of all it has to offer. Wesley W. Williams, the President of Member Services, said “the main objective of the WPUA is to help all members learn, master and succeed using WordPress while providing a place to connect with others and offer a collective voice to a vast and quickly growing community”.
With today’s unveiling, there are three different levels of membership being offered: Basic, Premium and Corporate Sponsor. The Basic membership, normally $97 a year, is free and offers a number of excellent benefits that you would typically pay for. The Premium level is discounted by 50% from $197 a year to $97 a year and includes more benefits than the Basic level membership. Then there is the Corporate Sponsor level. This level provides members with absolutely everything that WUPA has to offer and is discounted by 50% during this introduction period. Right now the membership price is $197 per year. The Premium and Corporate Sponsor levels offer monthly payment options to make it easy for anyone to join at the highest level possible.
All members are included in a growing directory with Premium and Corporate level members getting enhanced listings and priority rankings. Like the Directory, all members will receive the Blogging and New Media Report – an exclusive online, member-only, magazine that covers absolutely everything that has to do with WordPress, blogging, and new media issues.
For the experienced WordPress user looking to get the extra edge over the competition the WordPress User Association offers discounts on many popular themes, Plugins and other WordPress tools. Helping WPUA members save money is a major goal for Wesley, “We all purchase or use premium level blogging services and my goal is to use the collective purchasing power of the Association to secure discounts and other benefits for our members”.
Not only are there discounts and special offers inside WPUA but members can achieve levels of certifications from the Association based on their ability to help other members. Having a Certification from the WordPress Users Association designating a member as a “Pro” or “Expert” level user will surely help a WordPress professional or WordPress development company further their business.”

John P said of his vision that, “If you’re like me and you can envision an association where all WordPress users can share ideas, help one another, and work towards a common set of goals then I ask you to join the WPUA and help us refine and further our mission”.

Save Coding Time by Creating Special-Case Categories in WordPress

Thursday, March 10th, 2011

When you would use excluded categories:

seodenver.com

When using WordPress as more of a content management system (CMS) than a blogging platform, there are many things that you need control over. One of them is special-case categories.

Frequently asked questions
Testimonials
Case studies
Press releases
When you have a category of posts that you don’t want to have comments, publishing dates, post author, etc., you can define a list of excluded categories. In most cases, you should use Category Templates to achieve this functionality, but that is not always practical or the best option.

If you use the ACE plugin

I use the Advanced Category Excluder Plugin for nearly every WordPress installation I work with. That being said, there is always custom functionality that needs to find out what categories are being excluded by the plugin. Instead of hard-coding the Excluded categories, you can use this function (in your theme’s functions.php file, or Thesis Theme’s custom_functions.php file) to find out what categories are being excluded:

global $kws_exclude;
$kws_exclude = excluded_categories();
function excluded_categories($type=’array’) {
global $wpdb, $wp_query, $ace_targets;
if (is_array($ace_targets) && get_option(“ace_settings_hide”))
{
foreach ($ace_targets as $key=>$val)
{
if (!empty($wp_query->$key) && $wp_query->$key == 1) $filter = $key;
}
$cats_to_exclude = get_option(“ace_categories_”.$filter);
}
if(strtolower($type) == ‘array’) { $cats_to_exclude = explode(‘,’, $cats_to_exclude); }
return $cats_to_exclude;
}
If you want to hard-code excluded categories

If you don’t use the Advanced Category Excluder plugin, or simply want to use this functionality in a different way, here’s how to hard-code (manually define) the categories to exclude. Add this code to your functions.php file.

global $exclude;
$exclude = array();
$excludes = get_categories(‘child_of=10′); // Exclude sub-categories of a specific category (in this case, 10)
$excludes2 = get_categories(’8′); // Exclude a specific category (in this case,
$excludeList = array_merge($excludes, $excludes2); // Combine the two excludes
foreach($excludeList as $e) { $exclude[] = $e->cat_ID; } // Build the master list of excludes
Great, now what?

Then, when you want to find out if the post or category is excluded in another function, you do this:

function any_function_you_are_working_with() {
global $exclude; // make sure to add this
if(is_category($exclude) || in_category($exclude)) {
// If the post or category is, or is in an excluded category, do this
} else {
// If not, do this
}
}
This way, you can customize how content appears based on whether it’s an excluded category (removing comment forms, date/time, etc…).

How to Use WordPress for Small Business

Wednesday, March 2nd, 2011

PRLog (Press Release) – Feb 28, 2011 – How to Use WordPress for Small Business: Lets first take a look at WordPress competitors.

The competition against WordPress are Blogger, Posterous, Tumblr, TypePad, and Movable Type are well known blogging software options in the blogosphere. The popular Google blogging site, Blogger , is for blogging only and cannot be hosted anywhere else, but you do have the ability to have your own domain name. Blogger is extremely basic, free, and perfect for beginners to get started blogging, but not a good choice for creating a full featured site for your small business.

Posterous, is one of the newest free blogging platforms that launched July 2008. Posterous works primarily by submitting blog post via email, it’s very easy to use, but it offers zero customization, which is not a good thing for most small businesses.

Tumblr was launched in 2007, offering a unique spin on blogging by allowing users to post via email, phone, or desktop. One of the major disadvantage of using Tumblr is that it does not have a default built in commenting system like WordPress. For this reason Tumblr is not the best option for any small business trying to communicate with there customers.

TypePad costs $29.95 a month, which is needed in order to customize the website, so it doesn’t look like a standard blog. If you need to do advance customization you will need to learn the special TypePad programming language to make these changes.

Movable Type is another choice for your website or blog. Movable Type is also a fully content management system like WordPress.org. In order to use Movable Type for business requires a license fee which ranges between $99-$1000.
WordPress was released in 2003 by Matt Mullenweg. WordPress is the successor of b2, which was found by Michel Valdrighi. When development was stopped on b2, developers Matt Mullenweg and Mike Little, got together and created WordPress.

WordPress has become the preferred choice for website and blog development because of the ease of use and quick installation process, PLUS it’s free. Some of the biggest name brands in the world use WordPress for their business website, making it one of the most popular CMS and blogging software in the world.

So why do we love WordPress for our clients:

WordPress is free!
WordPress is open source
WordPress can be used for blogging or full website cms and development.
WordPress is optimized for SEO
WordPress has thousands of extensions (plugins).
WordPress has a massive supportive community.
WordPress allows multiple users per site.
WordPress is easy to update.
WordPress is our No. 1 pick for our own websites and for our customers as well. Even though WordPress is quick and easy to use, website development can still be time consuming. Also keep in mind that WordPress cannot be used for every situation. There are some projects that might require other solutions.

Here at Quixli we have made it our goal to help small businesses get started with WordPress instantly. Besides providing powerful hosting features for our clients, we have also created a one-stop shop environment for small business to get everything they need to make an impact online.

Denver SEO Company explains how building links is key to your website’s success

Wednesday, March 2nd, 2011

USWebCentral.com , Monday September 7, 2009.

Building a successful link building campaign can become a very tedious process. Our Denver search engine optimization services understand that manual link building is the most effective way to increase your Google page rank and rank your website higher in the organic search results.
Not all links are created equal and on one hand spending time submitting your link to high page ranking sites would seem to make good sense, however, you never know when a new directory offering a free submission today may raise in PageRank and charge you later. So with that in mind, you should have a web design company like our Denver web design team, optimize your pages for the best organic results before launching a large link building campaign.
One thing that remains consistent is that Google measures your popularity based on how many links point back to your website’s domain. The more links the better your rankings, however, links from sites with more authority, or a higher page rank, will ultimately produce better results.
A good strategy to build links is to register your site to multiple Social Media sites like Digg, Delicious, mixx and bookmark your articles frequently as many Social Media websites carry a high page rank and they get indexed frequently causing almost an immediate result. It is also wise to submit links to sites that do not use the no-follow attribute kike Wikipedia and yellow page sites, as Google does not caunt these links. Submit articles and press releases regularly and use anchor text links in your articles and web content.
How many online directories are there? There are a countless number of directories you can submit your website to, however, we submit to approx. 1500 of the directories that are well established and have high page rank.
Every directory allows you to submit their form to them, but it is only after their webmaster approves your link that you get listed. Search engines seem to index directories frequently and it improves your ranking over time.
Research shows that 85% of all people looking for a product or service start from a search engine like Google, AOL, Bing, Yahoo, MSN etc… 80% of the people will never go beyond the first page results. Therefore your success depends on organic search engine ranking.

ADMIN NOTE:  As of this past week GOOGLE is changing its policies and codes with regard to links and SEO procedures.
